I am the L.J. Semrod Presidential Professor of Economics and co-director of Center for Peace and Development at the University of Oklahoma (Norman, OK). I specialize in applied analysis of macro and micro development issues in the Global South. My main fields of research are development economics and international economics, focusing on the issues of structural change, long run development and growth, financial globalization, South-South trade and finance, political economy of development, and comparative economic development in the Middle East.

I am also an associate editor of the Review of Social Economy and the Journal of Economic Surveys.

I have conducted fieldworks in Lithuania,  Montenegro, Croatia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Latvia, Turkey and Uganda. I was also a Fulbright Fellow in Montenegro in 2015-2016, and Lithuania in 2022.

I have published one co-authored book (South-South Trade and Finance in the 21st Century: Rise of the South or a Second Great Divergence), and many articles in journals, including World Development, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Development Studies, Development and Change, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Review of Radical Political Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Review of World Economics, Applied Economics, World Economy, Journal of Economic Surveys, and Foreign Policy.
